ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — A crash involving two tractor-trailers closed I-65 North for several hours on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at 6:27 a.m. near mile marker 105, just north of the Bethel Road exit, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
Investigators reported that a 2019 International tractor, driven by a 48-year-old man from Georgia, struck the rear of a 2020 Freightliner parked on the right shoulder. The Freightliner's driver, a 34-year-old man from Rhode Island, was inside the vehicle's sleeping area at the time.
Both trucks ignited following the collision. The Georgia driver sustained injuries, while the Rhode Island driver was unharmed. No charges have been filed, as per the initial THP report.
Robertson County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Austin Bogle confirmed that minor injuries were reported. One of the trucks was carrying paper products that spilled onto the highway and caught fire.
Traffic was rerouted from I-65 North at Exit 104 as crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the scene. All lanes reopened around 11:05 a.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Recovery efforts are scheduled to resume at 8 p.m. Tuesday, which may require the right lane to close again.
