GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) — An early morning crash in Germantown on August 4, 2026, resulted in one fatality and seven injuries, predominantly among juveniles.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident at the intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m. Officials confirmed a two-vehicle collision that involved one vehicle overturning and catching fire.
Authorities reported that a 35-year-old man, the sole occupant of a blue vehicle, died at the scene. Seven children, ages 12 to 15, were traveling in a white vehicle; they were transported to local hospitals, with some in critical condition.
Witnesses reported that there were no adults present in the white vehicle, and police confirmed that none of the juveniles were licensed to drive. “What I can say to you is that none of them were of age to be driving a vehicle,” said Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff.
As of Tuesday morning, the intersection remains closed, and lane closures are expected to last several hours as the investigation continues. Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area and select alternate routes.
