TOLEDO, OHIO (TNND) — Rep. Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized Sunday morning following a hit-and-run crash on her way to church.
The Toledo Police Department reported Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle struck by another car around 10:48 a.m. near North Detroit and West Central avenues. The driver of her vehicle, 26-year-old Kegan Zimmerman, was also injured.
Police confirmed that Kaptur's injuries are not life-threatening, and she remains in stable condition. A statement from Kaptur's office indicated she is “active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene and is currently being sought. According to police, significant progress has been made in the investigation, with several strong leads being followed. A witness reported that the fleeing driver was picked up by another vehicle.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have been impounded, and evidence processing is underway. Toledo Police encourage anyone with information to contact their department.
