One dead, five injured in West Lake Okoboji boat collision
ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa — A boat crash on West Lake Okoboji Sunday afternoon resulted in one fatality and five injuries.
The incident occurred around 1 p.m. near Pillsbury Point, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Two boats collided, resulting in one person's death and five injuries to occupants in one of the vessels.
Three individuals sustained serious injuries, while two others experienced minor injuries. All five were transported to Lakes Regional Hospital and Spencer Hospital. All occupants were wearing personal flotation devices, the DNR confirmed.
No injuries were reported for passengers in the second boat, authorities said.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway; however, officials noted that alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
