Bardstown Airman Among Six U.S. Air Force Fatalities in Iraq Crash

(BARDSTOWN, KY) — Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, was one of six U.S. Air Force airmen killed in a KC-135 crash in western Iraq on March 12, the Department of War confirmed.

According to reports, Pruitt was assigned to the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. The crash also claimed the lives of five other airmen:

  • Maj. John A. Klinner, 33, Auburn, Alabama
  • Capt. Ariana G. Savino, 31, Covington, Washington
  • Capt. Seth R. Koval, 38, Mooresville, Indiana
  • Capt. Curtis J. Angst, 30, Wilmington, Ohio
  • Tech. Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons, 28, Columbus, Ohio

All six airmen were supporting Operation Epic Fury at the time of the incident, which is currently under investigation.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Congressman Andy Barr expressed condolences. Barr noted on Facebook, “Praying for the family and friends of TSgt. Ashley Pruitt. Her ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Local representatives, including Rep. Candy Massaroni and Sen. Jimmy Higdon, shared their sorrow on social media, emphasizing Pruitt's dedication and service to the nation.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Pruitt's husband, daughter, and stepson, raising over $55,000 toward its $90,000 goal as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
