OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — A 13-year-old boy and his grandmother were killed in a crash linked to alleged street racing early May 24, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight near N.W. 39th Expressway and Portland Ave., an area known for street racing activity. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles speeding before a Dodge Challenger crashed into a separate vehicle carrying seven passengers.
According to an arrest affidavit, responding officers found Felix Santiesteban Acosta, the driver of the Challenger, with an odor of alcohol. He initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to drinking prior to driving.
Investigation revealed that the Challenger struck a vehicle occupied by three adults and four children. Cecilia Vasquez, 55, and her grandson, 13, died at the scene.
Acosta, currently in custody, faces two counts of second-degree murder along with multiple charges, including aggravated DUI, DUI causing great bodily injury, reckless driving, and driving without a valid license.
Authorities have yet to provide details about the second vehicle involved in the alleged race, and no further arrests have been made.
