An 87-year-old man ran a red light on Broadway in Nashville, striking four pedestrians and killing one, according to police.
The driver, identified as Thomas Cahill from Bowling Green, Kentucky, was traveling with his 90-year-old wife and her caretaker. Both Cahill and his wife sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Timothy Wedlock, 58, a pedestrian from Australia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities stated that Cahill showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
The collision has heightened discussions about elderly driving laws in Tennessee and traffic safety on Broadway, a popular tourist destination.
