Gouldsboro, ME – A woman was killed in a crash on Route 1 Sunday evening.
At approximately 6:55 p.m., Heather Allen, 39, of Ellsworth, died at the scene after her Chevrolet Trailblazer was struck by a Subaru Crosstrek that failed to stop at a stop sign on Old Route 1, according to Maine State Police.
The impact caused the Chevrolet to spin into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by another vehicle and rolled over. A passenger in Allen's SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as did the drivers of the other two vehicles involved.
Route 1 was closed for several hours due to the incident, according to authorities. The crash remains under investigation, and it has not yet been determined if charges will be filed.
Gouldsboro is located in Down East Maine, across Frenchman Bay from Bar Harbor.
