LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A crash near Craig and Simmons on Saturday afternoon left one teen dead and another in critical condition.
Authorities said 17-year-old Janiah Gant died at the scene, while her 19-year-old sister, Leilani Wigfall, sustained severe injuries. Emergency services responded promptly, with medical aid transporting Wigfall to a local hospital.
Witness Alana Davis reported that a BMW collided with a Kia at the intersection, resulting in a loud explosion. “I turned around to help and saw one of the victims lying in the street,” she explained.
Davis, alongside two doctors who arrived to assist, found Gant's sister severely injured. “She was bleeding from her mouth and head,” Davis stated. The driver of the BMW, 31-year-old Triquan Hughes, was present with a 10-year-old boy, both of whom were unharmed.
Authorities indicated that Hughes was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. He has been charged and appeared in court on Wednesday, with a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday morning.
Investigations are ongoing, and lane closures were in effect for several hours as crews worked at the scene.
