LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A 61-year-old pedestrian has died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a pickup truck at a bus stop in Las Vegas on July 31, according to authorities.
The Clark County Coroner's Office confirmed the man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at UMC on Aug. 18. His death marks the 104th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas this year.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Vegas and Buffalo drives when a 2018 Ram 1500 pickup, driven by 27-year-old Roberto Olivas, attempted to overtake vehicles by using a right-turn-only lane. The truck hit the curb, veered onto the sidewalk, and collided with the bus stop shelter, injuring the pedestrian and damaging an electrical box.
Authorities reported that Olivas exhibited signs of impairment but was unable to undergo field sobriety tests due to his injuries. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators determined the vehicle was traveling at 99 mph five seconds prior to the crash.
Olivas faces felony charges of DUI and reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm. He remains in custody at Clark County Detention Center on $200,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 2.
The investigation is ongoing.
