PORTLAND, ME – A 13-year-old boy was killed and two others injured in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Warren Avenue Saturday night.
Portland Police responded to the incident at approximately 8:46 p.m., involving a motor vehicle and three pedestrians. Preliminary investigations revealed that a group of teenage boys was walking on the north side of Warren Avenue when they reportedly entered the roadway abruptly, colliding with a vehicle operated by a 48-year-old Portland man.
The 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy were transported to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries; both are expected to survive. Authorities noted that additional youths in the group were uninjured.
Emergency responders included the Portland Fire Department and the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office. The status of the deceased in relation to Portland Public Schools has not been confirmed.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center for evaluation, where he is expected to recover.
Warren Avenue was closed for approximately five hours to facilitate the investigation, which remains ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
