PORTLAND, ME—A 13-year-old boy was killed, and two others were injured in a pedestrian crash on Warren Avenue Saturday night.
Portland Police responded to a report of a collision involving a motor vehicle and three pedestrians at approximately 8:46 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a group of teenage boys was walking along the north side of Warren Avenue, heading toward Riverside Street, when they abruptly entered the roadway and were struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.
Authorities confirmed that a 13-year-old boy died at the scene. A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and were transported to Maine Medical Center, where they are expected to recover. Other youths in the group were not injured.
Emergency services, including the Portland Fire Department, assisted at the scene along with the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office and representatives from Portland Public Schools. Authorities did not clarify if the deceased was a student of Portland Public Schools.
The driver, a 48-year-old man from Portland, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. He suffered injuries and was also taken to Maine Medical Center but is expected to be fine.
Warren Avenue was closed for approximately five hours due to the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of yet.
