FORT WORTH, Texas (WKRC) — Two men were killed Thursday morning in a minivan crash that led to the discovery of nearly 500 pounds of liquid methamphetamine.

Authorities responded to the incident around 10:30 a.m. on a local roadway. According to police, the minivan struck an unoccupied, parked truck before coming to a stop nearby. Emergency responders found a man dead in the passenger seat; the driver was provided medical care but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While investigating, officers discovered 10 plastic buckets inside the minivan emitting strong fumes, prompting the call of Narcotics officers. The DEA later analyzed the substance, identifying it as likely liquid meth with a total weight of approximately 480 pounds and a street value estimated between $1 million and $3 million.

One firefighter at the scene experienced exposure to the chemical and was but has since been released and is in good condition, authorities said.

Buddy Calzada, a spokesperson for the Fort Worth Police Department, noted the potential dangers if the situation had escalated, stating, “You have hundreds of pounds of this liquid meth on the roadway. It's making it unsafe.”

The identities of the deceased men have not yet been released. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities are assessing the implications of the hazardous materials involved.
