MOUNT PLEASANT — A small personal plane crashed into a neighborhood pond shortly before 8 p.m. on March 31.
The aircraft, a Cirrus SR22T, lost control during takeoff from a private airstrip in the Raven's Run community and veered left into the water. Both the pilot and passenger emerged uninjured, according to authorities.
Emergency responders from the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to the scene. No additional injuries or fatalities were reported.
The incident occurred adjacent to the Isle of Palms connector in a neighborhood known for its private runway. Residents frequently engage in flying activities, as confirmed by local sources.
The pilot, whose identity has not been released, attributed the crash to a mechanical malfunction. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
