Cambridge, MA— A Boston duck boat overturned around 3 p.m. Saturday at the Charles River entrance on Museum Way, injuring 11 of the 32 passengers onboard.

Emergency responders from the Massachusetts State Police arrived at the scene, where the vehicle was found on its side. All passengers were accounted for, and those injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

According to witnesses, the incident began when the duck boat reportedly lost power. A nearby duck boat attempted to provide assistance but encountered difficulties while towing. Witnesses described a harrowing moment when the towline snapped, causing the towed boat to roll backward and strike a rock wall before tipping over.

One passenger, Abigail Blount, expressed her shock, stating, “Everyone was scared…I remember hearing screams.” Another witness, Abbey Conrad, noted the emotional aftermath, recalling scenes of distressed passengers, including children separated from their guardians.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu commented on the investigation, stating the incident would be taken “extremely seriously” and that findings would clarify whether it was an equipment malfunction or a deviation from standard procedures.

As of Monday, authorities had no new updates on the investigation, and Boston Duck Tours declined to comment further, citing the ongoing inquiry.
