LEWISTON, ME – A stolen dump truck from Massachusetts crashed in Lewiston on Friday evening, injuring an officer and leading to three arrests.
Around 8 p.m., Lewiston Police received an alert from the Flock Safety System regarding the stolen truck in downtown Lewiston. The dual-wheeled dump truck, taken from Marlborough, Massachusetts, was pursued by officers after it attempted to evade capture.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Bartlett and Walnut streets. The truck subsequently rammed a police cruiser, totaling the vehicle but causing no injuries to the officer inside.
The truck then traveled one block to Longley School, crashing into a playground fence, which disabled the vehicle. The three occupants were arrested at the scene.
Authorities identified the suspects as 23-year-old Antonio Moralespijoan, 20-year-old Angelika Almeida, and 37-year-old Steven Grossi, all from Massachusetts. They face various charges, including theft and related offenses; however, it remains unclear if they have legal representation.
One officer sustained a serious head injury during the pursuit, receiving treatment for a cut requiring seven staples. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details are forthcoming.
