Wellfleet, MA — A head-on collision on Route 6 left a Massachusetts high school senior and three others injured on Tuesday evening.
According to the Wellfleet Police, officers responded to the crash scene near Shepley Wood Products at approximately 5:45 p.m. A BMW sedan driven by 60-year-old Carlos Ibarguen of Eastham collided with an Audi sedan operated by 18-year-old Aiden Riggins of Orleans, a senior at Nauset High School.
Riggins and his passenger, 18-year-old Samantha Barrio of Wellfleet, were transported via medical helicopter to Boston hospitals in serious condition. Ibarguen was uninjured; however, a passenger in his vehicle, 73-year-old Robert Erickson of Eastham, was taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the BMW crossed over double-yellow lines, resulting in the head-on collision in the eastbound travel lane. Eastbound traffic was diverted around the crash site while emergency personnel responded.
Authorities stated that Ibarguen is facing charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violations, and operating outside of his license registration due to failure to wear glasses. A request to suspend his license has been submitted to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
