Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on H-1 Freeway Early Sunday Morning.

HONOLULU (Island News) – A collision in Makiki early Sunday morning resulted in one fatality, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The incident occurred around 4:18 a.m. while a 63-year-old man was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway. The vehicle struck the center concrete median, leading to a loss of control and a collision with the Vineyard off-ramp wall.

Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later . Police confirmed he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Authorities stated that speed does not appear to be a factor, though the involvement of drugs or alcohol remains unclear. This incident marks Oahu's 11th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 18 fatalities at this time in 2022.
