HONOLULU (Island News) – A single-vehicle collision in Makiki early Sunday morning resulted in one fatality, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
The incident occurred around 4:18 a.m. while a 63-year-old man was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway. The vehicle struck the center concrete median, leading to a loss of control and a collision with the Vineyard off-ramp wall.
Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Police confirmed he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Authorities stated that speed does not appear to be a factor, though the involvement of drugs or alcohol remains unclear. This incident marks Oahu's 11th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 18 fatalities at this time in 2022.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with no additional information available at this time.
