E-Bike Accident Leaves 14-Year-Old Hospitalized in Medway
MEDWAY, Mass. — A 14-year-old is recovering from significant but non-life-threatening injuries following a crash involving a car and an e-bike on Wednesday.
Authorities reported that the incident highlights growing concerns about e-bike safety, particularly among young riders. In a separate announcement, Attleboro police revealed charges against three individuals related to other e-bike incidents.
Dr. Ari Cohen, Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Mass. General Brigham for Children, noted a sharp increase in e-bike-related injuries, citing paramedics are responding to more incidents than ever. He stressed the importance of helmet use, stating that it can mitigate serious brain injury risks, although typical bike helmets may not suffice for higher speeds.
Parents are urged to supervise their children and discuss safety guidelines concerning e-bikes, emphasizing the need for appropriate age restrictions regarding usage and speed.
