Koloa Traffic Fatality: One Dead, One Injured in Early Morning Crash
Koloa, HI – A two-vehicle collision on Maluhia Road early Friday morning resulted in one death and serious injuries. The incident occurred around 4:10 a.m.
According to the Kauai Police Department (KPD), a 2008 Honda sedan traveling north crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2022 Toyota SUV. The driver of the Honda, identified as 35-year-old Brandon Nakaahiki, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His front-seat passenger, a 33-year-old woman from Koloa, was transported by medics to Wilcox Medical Center and later transferred to The Queen's Medical Center in Oahu for further treatment.
The 70-year-old driver of the Toyota reported no injuries.
KPD stated that preliminary findings suggest speed and weather conditions may have contributed to the crash. Toxicology results are pending to assess potential impairment. This incident marks Kauai's second traffic fatality of 2026.
