Motorcyclist injured in Līhuʻe crash airlifted to Oahu hospital.

LIHU'E, Hawaii (Island News) – A serious collision involving an electric motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Kuhio Hwy and Kuamo'o Road on Monday at 5:50 a.m.

Authorities reported the incident involved a 2003 Jeep Sport Utility Vehicle and an electric motorcycle. The Jeep, driven northbound by a 38-year-old Hanapepe man, was making a left turn onto Kuamo'o Road when it struck the southbound motorcycle operated by a 42-year-old Kapa'a man. The impact the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet.

The 42-year-old rider was transported to Wilcox Medical Center and subsequently transferred to Queen's Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment; his current condition remains unknown. The driver of the Jeep reported no injuries.

Police closed Kuhio Hwy in both directions for approximately two hours to conduct an investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Officer Henshaw at 808-241-1616.
