OAK PARK, Ill. (April 3, 2023) — A driver took his own life following a crash that injured 14 people in Oak Park this morning.
Authorities confirmed that the driver, 48-year-old Thomas Cremeens, ran a red light while swerving to avoid a pedestrian, colliding with multiple vehicles, including a bus. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Madison Street.
Police reported that 11 individuals were transported to local hospitals, while three others received treatment at the scene. None suffered serious injuries, according to authorities.
Witnesses reported that after the crash, a bystander approached Cremeens' vehicle. As the bystander walked away, a gunshot was heard. Authorities confirmed that Cremeens died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is ongoing. Roadway closures along Madison Street are expected as authorities continue to gather details about the incident.
