CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed on Wednesday in a crash while conducting a traffic stop on US-287.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was attempting the stop around 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer reportedly pulled out in front of him, resulting in a collision.
Trooper Romero died at the scene. He joined the Department of Public Safety in 2025 after serving with the Hall County Sheriff's Office and was stationed in Childress.
Romero is survived by his wife and two young sons.
