MERRIMACK, NH — The F.E. Everett Turnpike was closed for approximately one hour on Monday due to downed wires causing a crash and subsequent brush fire.
Authorities received reports of the incident around 3:15 p.m. involving two vehicles, which collided after striking the downed wires. The accident resulted in minor injuries; however, no fatalities were reported. Emergency responders from the MERRIMACK FIRE DEPARTMENT quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire caused by the downed lines.
According to local officials, traffic was diverted to provide access for emergency services. All northbound and southbound lanes were shut down during the response, and tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation is conducting an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash and fire. As of 4:15 p.m., the roadway was reopened following the completion of recovery efforts and safety inspections. No additional injuries related to the brush fire have been reported.
