Car Accident Leads to Heart Surgery for Local Artist
LEWES, DE – On January 12, 2024, a cold and rainy afternoon, Michael Sprouse was involved in a serious car accident at the intersection of Savannah Road and Wescoats Road.
According to authorities, while Sprouse suffered minor injuries from the crash, the incident prompted medical examinations which revealed plaque buildup around his heart. Following an evaluation, he was advised to consult a cardiologist.
The cardiologist diagnosed Sprouse with a defect in his aortic valve, leading to valve replacement surgery shortly thereafter. “The impact from the airbag probably should have been fatal,” Sprouse stated, emphasizing the life-saving nature of the surgery.
Originally from Kentucky, Sprouse has built a career as a visual artist and media personality. He moved to Lewes after a turbulent period in Washington, D.C., and has since become known for his work in local arts and entertainment media.
Additionally, Sprouse co-hosted the first live broadcast of the Sea Witch Parade in Rehoboth Beach in 2015 and has held various radio positions throughout Sussex County.
At 60 years old, Sprouse is focused on his health and uses his experiences to inspire local artists through initiatives like Developing Artists Collaboration. Currently, he serves as the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Sussex County Association of Realtors.
Sprouse's journey continues as he explores new mediums, including artificial intelligence, to enhance his artistic expression.
