NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded Sunday morning to a report of a power outage in the 200 block of West Ocean View Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a single-vehicle accident involving a car that struck a 6′ x 6′ Dominion Energy transformer on the north side of Ocean View Avenue. Authorities reported that five individuals were transported to the hospital, with one suffering from critical injuries. The impact damaged the transformer significantly, leading to the potential leakage of 100-200 gallons of non-PCB mineral oil onto the roadway.
The Storm Water Department, Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), and the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) were contacted for assistance. Dominion Energy personnel arrived to help control the situation regarding the damaged transformer.
According to authorities, West Ocean View Avenue is closed in both directions from 200 to 300 West Ocean View Avenue, leaving residents in that section without power. The incident remains under investigation.
