HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer closed Interstate 295 for hours on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:05 p.m. at mile marker 42.5, near the Interstate 95 exit, according to Virginia State Police. Troopers arrived on scene within one minute to find the semi fully engulfed in flames on the left shoulder.
Initial investigations indicate that the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the left lane when it accelerated and attempted to change lanes, striking the driver's side rear of a Tesla sedan. This impact caused the Tesla to lose control.
Post-collision, the semi veered off the interstate, crashed through a guardrail, and struck several trees before catching fire. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advised drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays as the investigation continues.
