LANTANA, Fla. — A high-speed crash on Dixie Highway on Tuesday afternoon led to an eight-vehicle pileup, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
Authorities confirmed that a Jeep Wrangler was traveling at excessive speeds and struck a truck near Ocean Avenue before colliding with stopped traffic, triggering the multi-vehicle accident. The crash was reported at approximately 2:41 p.m.
Jose Bedoya, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene. Medical teams transported two individuals with serious injuries via trauma hawk. Witnesses, including local business owner Sal Perna, reported seeing the Jeep racing at nearly 100 mph prior to the crash.
Perna expressed shock at the scale of destruction, stating, “I was in shock that there were so many vehicles involved.” He noted that dangerous driving on Dixie Highway occurs regularly and called for increased police presence in the area.
