CENTERVILLE — A pedestrian was struck in a car–SUV crash Tuesday afternoon at a rural U.S. 40 intersection, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Hildabrand Road, approximately 3 miles west of Centerville.
Pedestrian Isaiah Marquis Thomas, 28, and two occupants of the SUV—driver Joyce Nicole Deloney, 47, and a juvenile—were transported to Reid Health in Richmond with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Witnesses reported that Thomas was livestreaming while walking westbound for a fundraising effort when the crash occurred. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 silver Buick LeSabre, driven by Jerry Eugene Plummer, 82, collided with the rear of a 2017 blue Mazda CX-5 SUV, driven by Deloney, propelling it into Thomas.
Wayne County Emergency Communications received several 911 calls regarding the crash. Emergency responders, including Centerville Fire/Rescue and Reid Health EMS, arrived on the scene shortly after the incident.
The full extent of injuries to Thomas, Deloney, and the juvenile passenger remains unclear. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has not completed its investigation. Lane closures were reported following the incident, and towing services were on scene to assist.
