79-Year-Old Michigan Man Dies in Morning Collision in Miami County, Indiana

DENVER, Ind. (WISH) — A 79-year-old man from South Haven, Michigan, died in a crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 16, authorities said.

The Indiana State Police reported the incident occurred around 11 a.m. Approximately 2 miles west of Denver, the accident involved a 2021 Lexus driven by 88-year-old Larry Durham of Rochester, Indiana, and a 2019 Honda CRV SUV driven by Joseph Wilhelm.

According to Master Trooper Jeremy Perez, Durham was traveling west on State Road 16 and attempted to cross U.S. 31, colliding with Wilhelm's southbound vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in the southwest quadrant of the intersection.

A medical helicopter transported 78-year-old Barbara Wilhelm, a passenger in the CRV, to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Durham and his passenger, 85-year-old Virginia Durham, were also taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities stated that there are no indications that alcohol or narcotics contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as of Wednesday night.
