EVANSTON, Wyo. (KUTV) — Two fatalities and 22 injuries were reported following a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 near Evanston on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on February 18, at mile marker 18, just east of Evanston. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, multiple collisions unfolded simultaneously in both eastbound and westbound lanes.
The eastbound crash involved several semi-trucks and passenger vehicles, while the westbound collision included 20 semi-trucks and 12 passenger vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that two individuals were killed, with 22 others sustaining injuries. Three were airlifted to medical centers in Utah, while the remaining injured were transported to a local hospital in Evanston.
Injuries reported ranged from broken bones to severe bruising.
“Our troopers and other first responders worked relentlessly through the night to save lives, clear the road, and ensure the safety of the traveling public,” the Wyoming Highway Patrol stated.
An investigation is ongoing; preliminary reports suggest that excessive speed for the weather and road conditions may have contributed to the crashes.
