SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A sergeant with the Utah Department of Corrections died in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Sunday morning.
Salt Lake City Police responded to the incident near 700 N 8000 W at 7:25 a.m. Authorities reported that the vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times. The driver, identified as Robert Hill, 62, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police indicated that Hill lost control of his vehicle while traveling south on 8000 West. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by detectives with the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team.
Hill had been with the Utah Department of Corrections since 1996, serving in various capacities, including positions in the maximum-security unit at the Draper facility. Most recently, he worked in Enforcement at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
Jared Garcia, UDC Executive Director, expressed condolences, stating, “The passing of Sgt. Hill is a profound loss for our department and for our entire law enforcement community.” UDC officials also announced support services are available for staff members coping with Hill's death.
No additional details regarding lane closures or tows have been released at this time.
