LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WCHS) — A two-vehicle crash on County Road 181 resulted in one fatality Friday morning, according to authorities.
Michael Ferguson, 51, of Ironton, was pronounced dead after being transported to King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver and two occupants of the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries at St. Marys Medical Center in Ironton.
Witnesses reported the head-on collision occurred shortly before 9 a.m. while Ferguson was traveling westbound and crossed into the eastbound lane, striking the other vehicle. Authorities noted that Ferguson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded with assistance from the Upper Township Fire Department, Lawrence County deputies, and EMS. An investigation is ongoing. Lane closures were implemented during the emergency response and investigation.
