CHELMSFORD, MA — A 37-year-old man is in custody after a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Billerica Road.
The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. in a parking lot, where a woman sustained serious injuries. She was initially transported to Lowell General Hospital before being airlifted to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington for further treatment.
According to authorities, the driver, Steven Mullen of Clinton, fled the scene but was later located in Lowell. Mullen is charged with multiple offenses, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person aged 60 or older, leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury, and reckless operation, among others.
Mullen is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at Lowell District Court. It is unclear if he has retained legal counsel.
The Chelmsford Police Department, along with the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, is conducting an investigation into the crash. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
