ALDSWORTH, England (WKRC) — A 21-year-old woman from Chipping Norton has seen her prison sentence increased from 6 years, 8 months to 9 years, 3 months following a deadly high-speed crash.
According to the Attorney General's Office, Liberty Mitchell was driving toward Aldsworth on Dec. 2, 2022, when she exceeded 100 mph while attempting to overtake three vehicles in a 60 mph zone. Her actions led to a collision with a taxi, resulting in a multi-vehicle crash.
Taxi driver Octavian Codreanu died at the scene, while passenger Moyra Whelan, a history teacher, succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. Six additional individuals sustained injuries, including three with serious injuries.
Investigators discovered videos on Mitchell's social media showing her engaging in reckless driving, including speeds of 100 mph and crossing into oncoming traffic. Authorities stated that she was en route to cleaning jobs, but her insurance did not cover business use.
Mitchell pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury. Along with her increased sentence, she faces an 8-year, 4-month driving disqualification and must pass an extended driving test for license reinstatement.
Attorney General Ellie Reeves remarked on the lasting consequences of Mitchell's reckless behavior, noting it led to the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to others.
