AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A 1,600-pound red bull escaped from an overturned cattle trailer on Interstate 40, roaming approximately 1.3 miles through Amarillo on Wednesday evening.
The trailer flipped at 5:45 p.m. on eastbound I-40 near Washington Street, prompting traffic diversions during rush hour. Authorities say the bull traveled south from the crash site before being corralled into a backyard in the 3400 block of South Jackson Street.
Witnesses reported the bull appeared to be overheated and bleeding when it reached the Lopez family's home. In an effort to cool the animal, family members sprayed it with a garden hose and provided several apples.
The Potter County Sheriff's Office responded, bringing a livestock trailer to safely secure the bull. The animal's injuries were not immediately confirmed.
