Palm Beach County Plane Crash Claims Nine Lives
PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — A small plane crash on Sunday afternoon resulted in the deaths of all nine individuals aboard. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Military Trail, near Cresthaven Boulevard.
The Learjet 60 was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it descended rapidly, striking the roadway and leaving a large crater. Witnesses reported substantial debris and flames emerging from the wreckage. A person on the ground suffered a leg injury, although initial reports indicated no injuries outside the aircraft.
Authorities have not released the names of the deceased, but family members have identified several of the victims. Adam Robinson, Helen Sharp, and their two young children, ages 4 and 2, were confirmed as passengers. Other identified individuals include Rachael Reed, Charmi Fehr, and Anita Maria Cetina. The plane's co-pilot, 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, was also among the deceased.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that investigators face challenges in recovering debris and determining the crash's cause. Preliminary evidence suggests the aircraft may have broken apart prior to impact. NTSB officials noted the importance of understanding weather conditions at the time, citing reports of icing and turbulence during the flight.
Local officials stated the incident has caused blockages to access roads, affecting about 600 residents, who are being provided shelter. The crash marks one of the deadliest aviation incidents in the U.S. in recent years.
Emergency services, including the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff's Office, responded promptly to the scene. The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report within 30 days.
