A Dallas woman died in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 58 near Rattlesnake Road east of Pleasant Hill on July 27.
According to the Oregon State Police, Leilani Jana'i Barto, 18, was driving a gray Mazda 3 sedan and attempted to pass eastbound traffic when she collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Arthur Allen Corliss, 74, of Eugene. The Highlander was subsequently struck by a westbound Kenworth semi-truck and trailer, operated by Anthony Richard Luna, 38, of Sutherlin.
First responders arrived shortly before 5:30 p.m. to find Barto deceased at the scene. Corliss was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries, while Luna reported no injuries.
The highway was closed for approximately four hours as an investigation was conducted. Authorities believe speed may have contributed to the crash.
