PLAINFIELD, IN (LOCAL NEWS WIRE) — A crash involving an Indiana State Police vehicle occurred Thursday morning on eastbound I-70 near Plainfield, the sixth such incident in five days.
According to authorities, Trooper Jordan Hall was investigating a prior crash when another vehicle lost control and collided with the rear of his parked patrol car. Both Hall and the other driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
This latest incident follows a similar crash on I-65 near 38th Street in Indianapolis the previous day, which sent Trooper Nick Klingkammer to the hospital. Sgt. John Perrine noted that none of the six crashes involving ISP vehicles in the Indianapolis District have resulted in life-threatening injuries. However, several troopers are still recovering at home. “We had too many people making selfish, poor decisions behind the wheel,” Perrine stated.
Since winter weather began affecting central Indiana on Saturday, Indiana State Police have responded to multiple emergencies, including:
- 530 crashes (69 resulting in injuries)
- 212 slide-offs
- 732 motorist assists
- 6 ISP vehicles struck
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has cleared snow from the interstates, but the shoulders remain partially obstructed, complicating emergency responses. Perrine urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly as ramps and bridges may continue to re-freeze.
“We must prioritize the safety of first responders and other drivers,” Perrine added.
