INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A woman died early Thursday in a crash between a Kia and a semitractor-trailer on I-70, according to Indiana State Police.
The collision occurred just after 4:30 a.m. on the ramp from Sam Jones Expressway to I-70 eastbound, near Indianapolis International Airport. The woman, a passenger in the Kia, has not yet been identified.
Authorities reported that the 2011 Kia was traveling eastbound when it lost control, struck a concrete median, and then veered into the right shoulder, crashing into a parked semi-truck. The semi driver had exited the vehicle before the accident.
Investigators indicated that excessive speed may have contributed to the Kia losing control. An investigation is ongoing.
The ramp was closed for nearly five hours and reopened at approximately 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Emergency responders included state police and local medical teams.
