Full-Scale Emergency Exercise Conducted at Willard Airport

SAVOY, IL—A full-scale emergency exercise took place on May 23, 2016, at the University of Illinois Willard Airport. This event, mandated every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration, simulated a plane crash scenario on runway 18/36.

Authorities reported that approximately 50 community volunteers participated as victims in the exercise. Emergency response included personnel from the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, University of Illinois Police, Pro Ambulance, Arrow Ambulance, and several fire departments, including those from Champaign, Cornbelt, Eastern Prairie, Savoy, Thomasboro, and Tolono.

The exercise aimed to enhance coordination among local agencies and improve emergency response strategies. It was an essential part of ongoing training to ensure readiness for real-life emergencies.
