COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the trucker in an earlier I-71 Delaware County fatal crash now faces identity-fraud scrutiny.

Investigators said Modou Ngom crashed into stopped traffic on I-71 near Sunbury earlier this year, killing three members of a family and injuring several others.

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, records show Ngom used multiple names and birth dates to obtain identification documents. Director Andy Wilson said evidence indicates he obtained an Ohio driver's license around 2003 and a commercial driver's license in 2007 under an alternate identity, and later became a U.S. citizen in the mid-2010s under that identity.

Authorities said he reverted to the name Modou Ngom in 2015, according to state records.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, information on the alleged identity and documentation fraud has been referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The U.S. Attorney's Office and Delaware County prosecutors were also notified.

Authorities said Ngom has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts, including aggravated vehicular homicide, and remains in jail. The case remains under investigation.
