MADISON, WI (WKOW) — Police are increasing traffic patrols in March after a Madison teenager was struck and killed in a crash.
According to authorities, Alexander “Sasha” Rosen was hit while crossing South Park Street at a marked pedestrian walkway en route to school. The incident has prompted the Madison Police Department to enhance enforcement in the area, which is notorious for drivers exceeding the posted 25 mph speed limit.
Lt. Scott Reitmeier noted that officers frequently observe vehicles traveling 10 to 25 mph above the limit. In response, visual reminders have been installed, including orange flags above speed limit signs and additional “please slow down” warnings.
Rosen's memorial now serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of speeding. “In the last two to three weeks, there are still many moving violations, even with marked patrol cars stationed on Park Street,” Reitmeier said.
In addition to South Park Street, police are increasing patrols on Fish Hatchery Road. This heightened enforcement is expected to continue through at least the end of March.
