EAST HADDAM — A motorcycle crash on the East Haddam Colchester Turnpike on Oct. 15 claimed the life of 63-year-old Stephen John Nichols.
Nichols, a Madison resident, was traveling westbound on a BMW motorcycle when a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by a 51-year-old East Haddam man, made a left turn from Starr Road into his path, according to police. The collision occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m.
Nichols was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver reported no injuries and declined medical transport, authorities said. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Born in New Haven, Nichols was a well-respected electrical engineer with over 38 years of experience, primarily in the defense sector, and was survived by his wife and two daughters. According to his obituary, he was a longtime motorcycle enthusiast and president of the Meriden Motorcycle Club.
Calling hours are scheduled for 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road in Madison, with a remembrance service beginning at 7 p.m.
