A 32-year-old man died following an SUV crash into a utility pole and a hotel on Route 1 in Westwood, Massachusetts, Monday afternoon.
The driver from Walpole was transported to a Boston hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, Westwood Police confirmed on Tuesday. His identity has not been released.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near an Interstate 95 off-ramp. Authorities stated the man's Nissan Rogue struck the utility pole, which fell over, before crashing into the nearby Budget Inn.
The hotel suffered significant but non-structural damage, while power outages affected the area. Utility companies restored service by Tuesday morning.
State and local police are investigating the cause of the crash.
