Plane Collision at LaGuardia Airport Disrupts Boston Logan Travel
A fatal plane crash at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night has led to significant flight cancellations and delays at Boston Logan International Airport.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, an Air Canada Express plane collided with an emergency vehicle responding to an incident on the runway. Two crew members were killed, and two Port Authority police officers suffered serious injuries. Seventy-two individuals were aboard the aircraft, and additional injuries were reported, some requiring hospitalization.
As a result of the incident, flight operations at Logan were heavily affected. According to FlightAware, there were 42 cancellations and over 336 delays reported by 8:45 a.m. on Monday.
Authorities stated that the runway at LaGuardia was closed until approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, impacting air travel across the East Coast. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision.
Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with alarming images circulating online. Tom Kinton, aviation expert and former head of Massport, noted that such incidents involving ground vehicles on runways are rare, underscoring the need for stringent safety protocols.
