Ford Issues Recall for Over 741,000 Vehicles Due to Transmission Issue
Ford is recalling more than 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential transmission issue that may increase the risk of a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall affects certain Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition models from 2018 to 2021. Affected vehicles may experience temporary engagement of the transmission parking pawl while in motion, potentially damaging park system components.
If the transmission park system is damaged, the vehicle may not stay securely parked if the parking brake is not applied, leading to unintended movement and heightening crash risk. Authorities reported 24 instances of property damage and nine alleged injuries, two of which are emotional injury claims.
Owners will receive notification by mail and are instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a Powertrain Control Module software update. Dealers will also inspect for potential transmission damage and replace any affected components at no cost.
