ANCHOR POINT, AK — A 53-year-old man died Sunday from injuries sustained in a two- collision on Saturday near Mile 155 of the Sterling Highway.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Dale Keefer was a passenger in a 1993 Pontiac Transport that was involved in an offset head-on crash. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when a 1997 Ford Expedition driven by 29-year-old Arwen Weisser of Homer crossed into the southbound lane. The Pontiac was operated by 24-year-old Richard Twing of Anchor Point.

Keefer and both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and were extricated by Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Services. They were initially treated at South Peninsula Hospital before Keefer was transported to an Anchorage hospital. Next of kin has been notified.

All passengers in Weisser's vehicle, including four children, were checked at the hospital as a precaution; they were reported to be unharmed. Twing and Weisser sustained only minor injuries.

According to authorities, weather and road conditions were poor at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor, though standard blood draws for both drivers were conducted.

This incident marks the first fatal car crash of the year on the Kenai Peninsula. An autopsy will be performed by the Alaska State Medical Examiner.
