Ex-Death Row Inmate Elwood Jones Sentenced to Probation for Crash

CINCINNATI — On June 4, 2026, Elwood Jones, 73, pleaded guilty in Hamilton County Municipal Court to two misdemeanor traffic offenses.

According to court records, Jones admitted to failing to maintain reasonable control and leaving the scene after a crash; city prosecutors dismissed a driving while intoxicated charge.

Judge Donte Johnson sentenced Jones to 6 months of probation and a 6-month driver's license suspension, records show.

If Jones violates probation, he faces 6 months in jail; Johnson also ordered $130 in costs, according to court records.

Authorities said the crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2025, on East McMillan Road, where Jones's struck a light pole.

Police said he left the scene, returned about 30 minutes later and refused an alcohol test.
