Harrisburg Student Dies in Iowa Train Collision.

A 14-year-old student was killed Wednesday in a collision with his father's vehicle in Poweshiek County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Robert Orton was in the vehicle with his father, Michael Orton, 38, when the train struck on Highway 21. Authorities confirmed that Michael Orton failed to yield at a crossing.

Robert Orton was at the scene. Michael Orton was to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Harrisburg R-8 School District released a statement expressing sorrow over Robert's passing, saying, “Robert was a member of our Bulldog family, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, classmates, teachers, and all who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.”

No other injuries were reported, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
